StudyGate implements usernames in order to protect your identity and preserve anonymity across the platform. In this article, we’ll cover how to pick the perfect username and share some basic standards to abide by.
Let’s dive in!
Standards
- Names touting quality are not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to, usernames with the following terms:
- A
- A+
- Best
- Ivy League
- Ace
- Whiz
- Genius
- Professor
- Name sharing your alma mater is allowed. If you went to MIT, MIT_physics would be acceptable. Don’t put MIT in your name if you didn’t attend there.
- Names disclosing your degree are also allowed. For example, if you have an MBA or PhD, these terms can be included in your username. Again, if you don’t have a PhD, don’t include it in your username.
- Don’t use a name or handle that can be found elsewhere online, i.e. your Github, Upwork, or Reddit account.
Tips
Need inspiration for a great username? Here are some ideas to get your creative juices flowing.
- Represent what you are. For example, Loveorganicchem or codingforlife
- Make the name easy to remember.
- Mash words that sound cool together. For example, ForeverStoich or Matrixatmyhouse
- Don’t add random numbers to your username. Instead, try using ‘_’ in front or behind your name, or doubling letters.
How To Change Your Username
You can change your username to another username that is not currently in use by messaging support. After changing your username, your old username becomes available for anyone else to claim.
StudyGate will not notify students that you changed your username. All reviews on your old username will be attached to your new username. We will not redirect your tutor profile page. Renaming may take up to 2 business days to complete.
