All the tutors I’ve dealt with on StudyGate were extremely helpful and professional. I don’t write reviews often, but you should definitely give it a try!
Maura helped me in all 3 subjects and did a fantastic job. She gave me more help in a few minutes than the other tutors I have tried taught me in 2 hours! - Jessica at KU
Thomas was constantly bending over backwards to accommodate my changing schedule. The response times were always “blazingly fast” like the site says, but more importantly he knows the subject extremely well. - Samuel at OSU
I met with Matthew probably 20 times to get ready for my finals. I recovered from surgery for the first 6 weeks of class and needed to catch up quickly. Matthew was flexible with scheduling and knew the subject very well. - Morgan at ASU
The first meeting with Ruth went great. She was VERY of understanding of my not having a solid foundation in math and we dove into the basics together. - Angel at UF
If you are anything like me it is fastest to just guess the answer and see what comes up wrong and then have someone explain it so you understand. Neha does all that and more. - Mia at Vanderbilt
Le Z is super patient to make sure you understand. Demand for resources, wage determination, public finance, information asymmetries, and income inequality. He broke it all down for me with the answers. - Robin at UT Austin
My favorite part of lessons with Brahmanand is when we take a very complex problem then break it down into its basic parts. This makes it WAY easier to grasp. - Ian at PSU
Nsomu has been giving me lessons for about four months. He knows the subject and helps me identify targets for improvement. Which gives me more time with my friends. - Dalton at Wellesley

How to Read to a Child
To read to a child, start by placing your pointer finger over the words that you read. Take time to comment on the picture that you read and ask inquiring questions about what each character in the pictures is doing. This will arouse curiosity and make them want to learn more about what happens in the story. It can also help child engagement and reading comprehension to use different voices to express the personalities of distinct characters.
If your child already spends hours a day in front of a screen, then the effort of pulling them away from their device can bring tremendous stress. Even then, experts share that your child should read 20 minutes a day. Your problem is time. You work a full-time job and then come home to relax and prepare for tomorrow, not teach a reading lesson. StudyGate reading tutors are uniquely positioned to solve this issue. Many of our reading tutors are certified teachers based in the United States. They’ll connect with you and your child on a video feed to ensure that their reading comprehension steps up to the next level.
Adult Literacy
However, children represent only one group of people who are learning to read. If their parents did not have high levels of education and lacked books at home, they may not have ever benefitted from the opportunity to learn. Other adults dropped out of school as young children or lived in poverty to such an extent that their learning progress was negatively impacted. Today, 32 million adults in the United States struggle to read at all while 21% of adults cannot read above the 5th grade level. This can have significant negative implications for career development over the course of one’s life.
For adults to advance their reading comprehension, StudyGate teachers focus on developing phonemic awareness. Adult learners begin to recognize letters and the sounds they make, then identify moments when the letter. The next step to full reading comprehension involves improving fluency. Fluent readers spend little time interpreting information and process words at a rate of about 145 words per minute when reading silently. The final step involves developing a strong reading vocabulary. Adult readers often face barriers in this area because their speaking vocabulary significantly underperforms their reading ability.
All StudyGate tutors are independent contractors with their own teaching methodologies. Consult an individual reading tutor for their plan to help your friend or child learn how to read.
